Nota d'usoIl sostantivo “gioco” va tradotto in modi diversi a seconda del contesto. Play è di solito usato come verbo, e quando è impiegato come sostantivo indica il giocare in generale, di solito riferito ai bambini: The importance of play in children's development, l'importanza del gioco nella crescita dei bambini. Quando invece si parla di un gioco dotato di regole e obiettivi, il sostantivo corretto è game: I got a nice game for Christmas, ho ricevuto un bel gioco per Natale (non I got a nice play for Christmas). Infine toy indica un giocattolo vero e proprio (es. bambola, soldatini ecc.): I gave her a toy for her birthday, le ho regalato un giocattolo per il compleanno.
